How to choose the appropriate dot pixel pitch for LED display screens?

Dot pitch is one of the important technical parameters of LED display screens. When we learn how to choose LED display screens based on dot pitch, let’s first understand what dot pitch is

Point spacing

Dot spacing reflects pixel density by measuring the distance between two pixels, and both dot spacing and pixel density are physical properties of the display screen; Information capacity is the unit of information carrying capacity displayed at once per unit area of pixel density. The smaller the dot spacing, the higher the pixel density, and the more information capacity can be displayed per unit area at once, making it suitable for viewing at a closer distance. The larger the dot spacing, the lower the pixel density, and the less information capacity can be displayed per unit area at once, making it more suitable for viewing at a greater distance.

How to choose the dot pitch of LED display screen?

When selecting the dot pitch of an LED display screen, two factors should be considered:

Firstly, the line of sight of LED display screens

The placement of LED display screens and the distance from which people usually stand to view them are important factors in choosing the spacing between LED display screens.

The calculation formula is: optimal visible distance=point spacing/(0.3~0.8), which is a rough range. For example, for a display screen with a point spacing of 16mm, the optimal visible distance is 20-54 meters. Standing closer than the minimum distance, the pixels of the display screen can be distinguished one by one, and the graininess is relatively strong. Standing further away, the human eye cannot distinguish the detailed features. (We target normal vision, excluding myopia and hyperopia).

Industry experience: For outdoor LED displays, P10 or P12 are generally used for those that are closer, while P16 or P20 are used for those that are farther away. For indoor LED displays, P4-P6 are generally acceptable, while P7.62 or P10 are used for those that are farther away.

Secondly, the total number of pixels on the LED display screen.

For videos, the basic formats are VCD with a resolution of 352 * 288 and DVD with a resolution of 768 * 576. So for video screens, we recommend a minimum resolution of no less than 352 * 288, so that the display effect is good enough. If it is even lower, it can be displayed, but it cannot achieve better results.

For single and dual primary color LED displays that mainly display text and images, the resolution requirement is not high. Depending on the actual size, the minimum display size for font size 9 can be determined according to your text volume.

In general, when choosing an LED display screen, the smaller the dot pitch, the higher the resolution, and the clearer the display. Of course, customers can choose the best LED display screen according to their actual usage and application needs to reduce unnecessary waste.
